Magical Moments

A much sought after visitor has returned to my local park, It is the beautiful Kingfisher.  I have spent the past few days seeking and trying to photograph it with little success but I have been rewarded with the occasional glimpse of an azure blue blur, flashing past into the wooded distance.
My good friend and fellow nature lover, Michael, tells me there are two, possibly three of the magnificent birds in the area and has managed to capture a couple of them in photographs.

Part of the joy of watching wildlife is in the waiting.  Sitting or standing quietly amid the trees and bushes, listening to the calls of birds, the wind in the trees, the water rippling placidly and the scent heavy autumnal air.  In those moments,  I metamorphose into that being I have always known.

And above all, watch with glittering eyes, the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.
(This quote is from Roald Dahl’s last children’s story, The Minpins. In fact, it is the very last line of that very last story.)
